The La Mandria Park covers all aspects of environmental education for schools and families, with particular attention paid to the needs of the disabled.
Educational programmes and tours of protected areas have been planned to deal with many subject matters and are aimed at specific age groups, from infant to high schools. Teachers interested have the chance to put forward new proposals and to help create new programmes.
The permanent, interactive multimedia exhibition AL-BO, understanding and playing with trees and woods, is another important educational tool for school activities and for in-depth study of many themes open to all those interested.
The Family Outing to La Mandria initiative was born from the idea of giving space to parents and children to enjoy themselves together discovering the wonderful environment of the Park. The woods become the setting for adventures, discoveries, stories and experiences which involve adults and children together.
The Park’s commitment to make its services available to all is seen in its constant initiatives in favour of disabled groups by creating special routes and activities for them.
Another constant activity is the theme meetings, which are periodically organized at the Park. Among these are bird-watching courses, exhibitions on the Middle Ages organized with local councils and visits to nearby areas led by experts who are carrying out nature studies in protected areas managed by the Park Authority.
Other than themes of environmental education emphasis is also given to museum educational activities.
Alongside the traditional tours of the Royal Apartments of Vittorio Emanuele II, there are interesting educational activities of a historical and artistic nature. These activities are to be seen as both running parallel, and complimentary to the nature programmes run by the Environmental Education Service.
The educational programme of the Royal Apartments is complemented by workshop activities where students are guided through the process of observation, comparison, metaphor and “doing”, which becomes the framework for a learning process. The educational programme of the Royal Apartments has as its strong point a highly-evocative and easily-understandable atmosphere. It was the private residence of the King and the great variety of tours offered can be adapted according to the age of the students and the requirements of their teachers.
The underlying concept behind the programme is to bring students close to the family atmosphere of the salotto borghese (middle-class drawing-room), immerse them in the nineteenth-century surroundings and allow them to reflect on the evolution of accommodation. All this is done using methods and tools suitable for the different age groups.
