Its position compared to the urban area; level or just slightly sloping ground and a well-developed network of gravel roads - once the ancient Savoy hunting routes - all make La Mandria Park a protected, easily accessible area for those with limited mobility.
Though it has not created specific routes for them, the Park Authority has been taking special care of those with mobility problems or other handicaps for some years now, to make it easier for all potential citizens to access its protected areas.
For a Park open to everyone, special bicycles free of charge are available in La Mandria at the bicycle hire point in Cascina Prato Pascolo: two traditional tandems and an electrical pedal bicycle carrying a wheelchair (sidecar-style).
A small 8-seater bus with specific platform lift to transport two wheelchairs can be booked to visit the Park.
Toilets with no architectural obstacles are available in Borgo Castello, Cascina Prato Pascolo, Cascina Vittoria, Druento gate entrance and Cascina Peppinella.
A special wheelchair route to see the water birdlife has been created in the duck lake behind La Mandria’s Borgo Castello with camouflaged hides and observation points to watch wildlife from.
The Borgo Castello show area where visitors can visit the Royal Apartments and the Vascello exhibition on the Medici is all accessible to those with difficulty moving around.
The permanent, multimedia, interactive AL-BO exhibition has no architectural obstacles. The TIP (park tourist train service) service is available inside the Park with 2 covered, heated carriages equipped to transport wheelchairs. The TIP offers passengers a wide choice of visits for general public and school parties independently or accompanied by Park rangers.
The environment and education services organise free trips for the disabled and group associations and select specific visits and activities.
One of the associations the Park has a longstanding partnership with is the Italian Union for the Blind. Together, they have organised trips to La Mandria Park and the Fossilized Forest with excellent involvement and participant satisfaction.
Other special visits have been organised for the APRI association (visually-impaired children): listening to birdsong, tales and analysis of Park plants through the Ciabot xylotheque (wood samples can be handled and smelt).
