Ciabòt delle Guardie

Originally used as a Marchesale kennel, it currently houses a Visitor Centre and the offices of the Park Environmental Education Service.
The Visitor Centre, which has been set up by the park guards and the organisation’s staff, houses numerous examples of mounted animals, including a wolf, a lammergeyer and a wild cat originating from the collection of Vittorio Emanuele II. Among the typical species of the fauna of La Mandria, there are wild boar, beech-marten, marten, wolf, hedgehog, woodcock, wild duck, shoveller and garganey.

The exhibition, which spreads over two floors, is made up of various themed sections. The ground floor contains: predators, insects, animal tracks, nests and shelters, bones and teeth, horns and antlers with particular emphasis on deer. On the upper floor, there is a room dedicated to vegetation with explanatory panels, a small xylotheque, a section on the fossilized forest and one on mushrooms; a second room is dedicated to geology and pedology.

Lastly, the centre also has a video-projection room.

It is the site of educational activities, naturalist courses and environmental education proposals dedicated to schools and families.

Visits may be arranged by appointment.
